Listen: Hubble “Hubble Potatoes”

Ben Greenberg a.k.a. Hubble is a guitar wizard. You most likely know that by now if you follow the disjointed weirdness of posts that make up this website. From the avant-awesomeness he contributed to Zs, to his shredy contributions to the late Pygmy Shrews, to his current more straight forward rippage in The Men, to call Greenberg a diverse shredder would be a bit of an understatement.

His solo project, Hubble, may be one of my favorite things to zone out to. Repetitive, dizzying technical guitar licks that would make any stoner simply exclaim ‘DUUUUUDDDEEEEEE!’ upon first listen are some of the most interesting sounds I have heard in a while. On “Hubble Potatoes” Greenberg takes the shred acoustic. It’s pretty amazing to hear these guitar parts played in succesion without the aid of a loop pedal or distortion and sheds a bit of light on what in the hell is actually going on in Greenbergs compositions. The track appears on a Trouble curated mixtape for this Summer’s ‘You Are Here’ Fest in Brooklyn, which you can download after dropping a few bucks to the events Kickstarter. Greenberg is also planning on releasing an all acoustic 7″ that will be available this fall via Company. Listen to “Hubble Potatoes” below, and also be sure to check out our live session with Hubble, shot at our SXSW day party earlier this year in Austin, TX.
